“Wide Awake” is the second single by American recording artist Katy Perry. It is from Perry’s re-release of her third studio album, Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection.
The viral lyric video premiered on Katy Perry’s official YouTube VEVO channel in late May 2012.
The song was written by Katy Perry, Bonnie McKee, Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Henry Walter, and was produced by supe producers: Dr. Luke and Cirkut.
The song was specifically written for Perry’s film Katy Perry: Part of Me, which plays during the end credits and from That’s Our Joe from the episode “Love Affair”.
A power ballad, “Wide Awake” utilizes electronic music and dance-pop within its composition, and is lyrically reminiscent of the reality of a break up and moving past it. “Wide Awake” became her tenth consecutive number-one single on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart and her ninth number-one single on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 (Pop Songs) chart tied with Rihanna as artists with most number one on chart and has charted at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Perry’s eleventh top-ten hit single in the United States, following all seven of the previous singles from Teenage Dream and three out of four singles from her debut album One of the Boys.
Lyrics for Katy Perry – Wide Awake
I’m wide awake
I’m wide awakeI’m wide awake
Yeah, I was in the dark
I was falling hard
With an open heart
I’m wide awake
How did I read the stars so wrongI’m wide awake
And now it’s clear to me
That everything you see
Ain’t always what it seems
I’m wide awake
Yeah, I was dreaming for so long[Pre-Chorus:]
I wish I knew then
What I know now
Wouldn’t dive in
Wouldn’t bow down
Gravity hurts
You made it so sweet
Till I woke up on
On the concrete[Chorus:]
Falling from cloud 9
Crashing from the high
I’m letting go tonight
(Yeah I’m) Falling from cloud 9I’m wide awake
Not losing any sleep
Picked up every piece
And landed on my feet
I’m wide awake
Need nothing to complete myself – nooohoooI’m wide awake
Yeah, I am born again
Outta the lion’s den
I don’t have to pretend
And it’s too late
The story’s over now, the end[Pre-Chorus:]
I wish I knew then
What I know now
Wouldn’t dive in
Wouldn’t bow down
Gravity hurts
You made it so sweet
Till I woke up on
On the concrete[Chorus:]
Falling from cloud 9
Crashing from the high
I’m letting go tonight (yeah, I’m letting go)
I’m Falling from cloud 9Thunder rumbling
Castles crumbling
I am trying to hold on
God knows that I tried
Seeing the bright side
But I’m not blind anymore…
I’m wide awake
I’m wide awake[Chorus:]
Yeah, I’m Falling from cloud 9
Crashing from the high
You know I’m letting go tonight
I’m Falling from cloud 9I’m wide awake
I’m wide awake
I’m wide awake
I’m wide awake
I’m wide awake
