“No Sleeep” is the lead promotional single from American recording artist Janet Jackson, for her forthcoming eleventh studio album to be released in the fall of 2015.
Co-written and produced by Jackson and her long-time collaborators Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, it is the first record to be released under Jackson’s imprint label Rhythm Nation Records, distributed by BMG Rights Management.
The track was released via Janet’s official Facebook and official YouTube page on June 22nd 2015. It was well received by music critics, who praised the song for its sultry aesthetic; reviewers complemented Jackson’s vocals, as well as the song’s subtle production style, noting that it appeared to be a conscientious choice on her part and that of her producers to avoid current market trends.
Lyrically, “No Sleeep” depicts Jackson longing to reunite with her lover. Due to its slow tempo and sentimentality, it has been described as embodying traits of the quiet storm subgenre of Contemporary R&B.
It was made available for digital download on June 22, 2015, in addition to vinyl copies being sold on Jackson’s official website in conjunction with pre-sale orders for the upcoming studio album and Unbreakable World Tour concert tickets. After the release, the song peaked at number one on Billboard ‘s Trending 140 chart.
