Baby is a song by Canadian recording artist Justin Bieber. It was released as the lead single from the latter half of Bieber’s debut album, My World 2.0. The track was written by Bieber with Christopher “Tricky” Stewart and Terius “The-Dream” Nash” who worked with Bieber on “One Time” and labelmate, rapper Ludacris.
The song has received positive reviews from critics who complimented the song’s effective lyrics and chorus, and commended Ludacris’ part and the song’s ability to have an urban twist. It has become Bieber’s biggest hit to date, charting at three and five, respectively in the United States and Canada. It has also charted in New Zealand and Australia, and set to impact other countries soon. The accompanying music video takes place in a mall/bowling-alley setting. The video features several cameos such as Drake.
Filming for the music video began during the week of January 25, 2010, in Los Angeles during the week of the 52nd Grammy Awards, at which Bieber presented with Ke$ha. It was filmed at Universal CityWalk by director Ray Kay, who had previously directed videos for Beyoncé Knowles, Lady Gaga, Alexandra Burke, among others. Ludacris said that the video “is like a 2010 version of Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel”. Bieber said that the video “will capture the song’s message of trying to woo back a girl.”
Oh woooah, oh woooooah, oh wooooah, oh.
You know you love me, I know you care,
you shout whenever and I’ll be there.
You are my love, you are my heart
and we will never ever ever be apart.
Are we an item? girl quit playing,
we’re just friends, what are you saying.
Said there’s another, look right in my eyes,
my first love broke my heart for the first time.
And I was like…
Baby, baby, baby oooooh,
like baby, baby, baby noooooooo,
like baby, baby, baby, ooooh.
Thought you’d always be mine, mine (x2)
Oh, for you I would have done whatever,
and I just can’t believe we aint together
and I wanna play it cool the thought of losing you
I buy you anything, I buy you any ring,
and now please say baby fix me and you shake me til’ you wake me from this bad dream.
I’m going down down down down
and I just can’t believe my first love won’t be around.
And I’m like…
