Joseph Kahn announced that he would be directing the video. Shooting for the video was set to begin on July 20, 2010. Later, it was reported that Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan would also appear in the music video, filming their scenes in Los Angeles, California, in the week of July 20, 2010.

On July 22, 2010, photos were released of the video showing Rihanna performing in front of a burning house.

On July 24, 2010, Kahn updated his Twitter page saying, “And that’s a wrap! Eminem/Rhianna premieres in a week!”
